Post by Tinkerbell » Mon Jul 30, 2007 8:41 am

We are celebrating August birthdays on the 10th. The theme is a Luau... All are welcome. The party will be at our house and starting after 6. I am not sure who all has a birthday this month, but Soccor Mom's is the 11th and mine is the 13th. Bring yourself, friends, anyone!!! If you need directions or anything, pm Firewa11 or I. Hope to see you out there.

IN!

Dammit dammit DAMMIT! :-o

My birthday is on the 10th. Vic told me a few days ago that as a present, she wanted to go on a 3-4 day trip somewhere, her treat. I thought, sweet, we could go either up to Arkansas again or down to Hill Country... then Mike puts up his post about the housewarming party I'll miss, and now a luau-themed birthday celebration party ON MY BIRTHDAY!?!? ARGGGGGG....

Just a reminder here, please let us know if you'll be coming out. PM me for directions if you don't know how to get here. It's pretty easy.

It's going to be a BYOB event as usual, we have a big cooler now so we have a place to store your frosty beverages. And whatever gets left / unopened we'll take to Mikes on Saturday. You are more than welcome to crash here at our place if you'd like to get a good drunk going! Next time when we drag the air mattress out, someone actually blow it up and use it! (points at Snailmeat & Emily) :-)

I haven't quite decided on food yet, but it's awefully tempting to go buy 40 party burritos from Bueno and 20 double cheeseburgers from McDonald's this time around, since we'll be having tasty food off the grill at Mikes the following night. What is everyone's thoughts on that?

Chips, Dip, Walmart Wings, bag of meatballs in the crock pot w/mushroom soup, toothpicks. Easy.
I'll bring a bag of chips or some sort, and booze, and some cokes.

Kalua pork, laulau, rice (A must at every meal), malasada's, spam musubi, poi, taro bread, manapua, poke aku, Khal Bi (Sckego can bring this! YUM), lumpia, and for dessert, haupia, or mochi. There, you have a pretty good Hawaiian luau menu. Although, Malasada's and Manapua are normally a breakfast food, but what the heck, at it in for a taste of Hawaii.

I may need to sit this one out, as I need to help my dad Friday getting him to the doctor's office and back. Drink some beers for me and I will try to make it to Mike's on Sat.

I hate you ):

As I posted earlier, Vic and I are going on a birthday weekend trip, leaving Friday morning, so I'm out for both the one party and t'other party. However, I'm sure you all will have a great time, and I'll post up my kalbi recipe when I get home so one of you guys can make it.

Lumpia? Do you have any idea how long that takes to prepare?! Actually, most 'island' foods take a long time to prepare, when you're on an island with nothing to do, you can spend all day making dinner  I got like 30 minutes tops.

Hah! You think making lumpia takes a while... try mochi. Used to over to a friends house every New Years day, it was a tradition for them to get their family and friends together and make mochi for everyone. Pounding 120-150 lbs of rice into mochi is an all-day affair for 25+ people.

Or you could go find some Mochiko and use that, but I consider that cheating :-)

Mochi = glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into a ball. Very sticky.
