Handling a Speeding Ticket
Handling a Speeding Ticket
Has anyone used or heard of anyone using 'remotetickets.com'? They are quoting $50 for representing you and working to get your ticket either dismissed, or to keep it off your record if you have to still pay the fine.
Anyone have any experience with these, or similar law firm groups? Any comments?

I'm assuming you got this in your cage. Depending on the city, you can pay half the fine, take defensive driving, and it won't go on your record. Or you can pay the full fine, defer it, not get a ticket for another 3 or 6 months, and it won't go on your record. You can do either of those once a year, but with deferring it, that is once a year per city. If you haven't already done both of those, it's typically not worth trying to hire a lawyer.

If the city wont give you deferred/defensive, get a lawyer. Otherwise pay the fine and get it dismissed.
I recently got *ONE DAY* deferred in dallas county even though it was over 80 in a 50 (30+ mph over). I went in, paid the fine, next day its gone.

No it aint my birthday, but I got my name on the cake.
Defensive driving or Advanced MSF worked for me in Crowley last year. Crowley courts questioned it, but when I explained that it was a 'training' course, they cut me some slack. The clerk said that the judge would have to decide, but it went on through. I was going 19 over (thank you to the sweet young thang in the Cop Shorts!) ... actually 26 over!
Seems that 20 mph is the magic number around here and she cut me some slack.
If your record is kind of clear, I'd go for the DD class and then do the Advanced MSF to write it off. If it's kind of iffy, try the Deferred Abducation (sp?) and last choice would be the lawyer. Some rather going to the lawyer first ... costs more, but usually works unless you're a habitual speeder.
Both me and Chris have used a local guy (Jame Mallory) that has gotten us both off ... where exactly was the stop?
Gotta be careful about those country Justice of the Peace's ... they are ELECTED, without any legal background!!!

I used a lawyer once when it was out of town and I didn't have a good way to do anything myself. In the end, he got me deferred adjudication. So, I paid him to do the leg work - i don't remember $50 or $100. It cost me extra money, but kept it off my record.
From what I can tell, yes these lawyers do work. they do about 10 minutes worth of work for them - but they know the options and methods better than we do.

I would definitly go the lawyer rout (find one in or near the area you got the ticket, they will know the local judges better and will know your best options). Also, trying to keep a ticket off your record that would normally go on your record (assuming all other options are exhausted) it is much better to have a lawyer representing you than to represent yourself.

I got a b/s ticket a few years back in wise county... I moved over toward the center stripe to get some fresh air in the radiator while behind a row of about 15 cars going 30mph.... state trooper sees it and fulls me over for crossing a double yellow, which i never did...
I didnt have the time to fight it so i said screw it.. i'll pay the fine, take deferred, and no biggie right...
So i send them a money order for the fine plus the fee for deferred... and i think thats the end of it...
After moving the first of april, I go to change the address on my license, and I can't do it online because wise county is now saying I never paid the $160 fine... So i gotta take the time off work and do it in person at a DPS office and I've got to repay the freekin fine.. i'm not happy at all

So what ever happened with the ticket situation? I just got one at 2:45am going 85 in a 60. Which is b/s I had my scanner on it went off while the cop was in front of me trying to catch other people. i slowed down, flowed with traffic then sped up to pass 1 car. then cruised about 65 i guess she followed me, turned her lights on and later told me I was doing 85. My speedo isnt 100% accurate due to a sprocket change but i know my speeds in off of RPM and in 6th gear, could I take it into a shop and have them "recalibrate" it and use the receit to dismiss the ticket? I can do the lawyer thing to if it worked for you. It was in Fort Worth. I just dont want a speeding ticket on my record.

The fact that your speedometer is accurate, or not, will not effect your case. If you were clocked on Radar or Laser, you don't likely have a case unless the tracking device was out of calibration.
The normal way to deal with this is to request deffered disposition or driving school. You stated you were 85 in a 60 - that is 25 over. Don't think you qualify. See http://www.fortworthgov.org/municipalco ... px?id=5672.
Looks like time to find a lawyer if you want this off your record.

I've used Jim Lollar twice. $40 for him to take the case, one of them I had to pay the fine but it stayed off my record, the other one was outright dismissed. This was after I'd already used up my "take the ERC" option.

I wouldn't use the last lawyer I used... very flaky, hard to get hold of, and lots of false promises (like a normal attorney? Heh). No way close to getting it dismissed. I think I could have done the same thing he did by calling up the court and asking for deferred disposition (it wasn't listed as an option on the back of the citation). I ended up paying around $400 for the ticket and the lawyer when it was all said and done, and still had 3 months of probation. Yeah it didn't go on my record but that was a big chunk of cash for a $200 ticket.

Thanks I will google him and see if I can find any info on how to get a hold of him. Thanks again. TO those of you who have gotten speeding tickets and had to pay up, how much was your ticket?sckego wrote:I've used Jim Lollar twice. $40 for him to take the case, one of them I had to pay the fine but it stayed off my record, the other one was outright dismissed. it varies from county to county and how much over you were doing. And if you opt for the defensive driving or the defered thing there's an extra fee on top of the ticket.

If you go the lawyer route you are just paying someone to do the exact same thing you can do. Your best bet is to just go take care of it yourself. State troopers always show up for court on the tickets that they write because that is all they do is write tickets so it wont get dismissmed that way. Just get defeered ajudication and you should be in the clear.

Some of you need to go back and read the link I posted before you give advice. Here it is again: http://www.fortworthgov.org/municipalco ... px?id=5672.
The ticket was stated to be 25 over and in Fort Worth. Per the Fort Worth Municiple Court web page Driver Safety Training and Defferred Disposition only apply up to 24 mph over the limit .
