Howdy

Post by chrusan » Mon May 18, 2009 9:03 am

My name's Chris and have been riding since 1986. My first bike was a 1978 Suzuki GS-750. I sold that in 1990 and bought a 1980 Kawasaki Police 1000 with working lights and siren (got out of a LOT of tickets on that one). In 1994, I bought a new Goldwing. Finally, I bought a new Kawaskai Concours 14 last spring. This Concours brought to me a whole new style of riding and I'm still working on high speed cornering so I'll probably take the next beginner ride you guys have so I don't hold up the guys that have been riding sport bikes a lot longer than I have. I'm open to advice and input to help improve my riding ability. Like I said, riding a sport bike and riding a dresser are two entirely different things. I've taken the basic rider course twice. Once in 1986 and again last year (military requirement). I've also taken the advanced rider course as well as a new sport bike class created for the military by MSF. I guess that's more than enough information for now. I hope I didn't put you to sleep :-D

Welcome to the boards, Chris. I look forward to meeting you on an upcoming ride or bike night.

Never heard of a Connie being referred to as a Sport Bike, but I guess that depends on the rider. :D Still, Sport Touring machines are more than welcome on our rides!

I don't know if you've seen the new one or not but it is a world of difference over the old Connie. The new one is largely based on the ZX-14. I personally have never owned a sport bike, but to me, this is the perfect "old man" crotch rocket. I still miss my Goldwing sometimes and will own one again but there's no way in hell I'm giving this one up for it. The wife will just have to deal with 2 bikes in the garage when I get around to getting another one. 8-)

Ooh, nice bike. I've been saying for a while that my next ride will be either a Feejer or a C14. Hope to see you around sometime.

I actually looked at (and rode) the BMW R1200 RT and loved it as well as the K1200 GT but the price point on the Connie was about $6K lower and IMO looked a lot sportier. It's also a blast to ride. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking seriously of heading to the Hill Country this weekend since it's gonna be a long one. My inlaws have a place in Tow (near Llano) so I thought that would be a great place to stage from for the weekend.
