Flan is neither cake nor pie, so it should't be mentioned. Neither is this a creme brulee thread. We're not talking about pudding, cookies, candies, or other dessert or non dessert items. This is a Cake vs. Pie thread. Let's stay focused! Especially considering flan is disguisting.

Cobbler can be mentioned because it's basically what happens when grandma got lazy with rolling the pie crust!

Ok, so go the other way - what is worse than tornados, and why.

Something like this:
Tornados > Earthquakes. The ground moves over a very large area, and there is no warning. Tornados are generally isolated, and there are clear weather warnings - that's why I was eating pie while the tornados were messing with Midlothian :-D

Here is the bracket... and the winner is Pie!!!

where do Cheese Cake and Boston Cream Pie fit into the mix?
From the braket above cheese cake is a Pie, and win's it. Now I'm not so sure on this one, but here is the controversy and their conclusion.... link
And yet, some people simply cannot accept that cheesecake is a pie.

The Selection Committee maintains that a key ingredient in any Cheesecake is a crusty base. Moreover, it does not rise. Cakes, generally speaking, rise. But the crust factor is inarguable. Cheesecake is a Pie, and Pie wins.

I'm with you. And i'm not totally 100% that cheese cake should be included in the bracket at all. But on the crust factor, it would be a pie.

Cake will stand alone, with out support from a tin

Pie will not stand alone. I'm talking whole pies not just a slice.

Pound cake as a nine seed and lemon meringue as a 13 are both travesties. What crappy-ass, no-taste-bud-having committee set that bracket? At least the best option came away with the championship. I hear that Creme Brulee dominated the NIT.

As for cheese cake, before it sets, the filling is just like most pie fillings (liquid) and then after cooking and seting if the fridge it will set and hold its own. Cheese Cake is a pie with a cleaver name meant to strike conversations...
