Reading Tires
Hi All,
Its been a while since my last post. In that time I've been to Australia with the family. So while you guys were shivering in the snow we were sunning ourselves on Bondi beach.
Anyway, the reason for this post is as the title suggests. Dave Moss, suspension tuning guru on the west coast posted a new video last week about reading tire wear and how this can teach us about suspension tuning for the track.
Heres the link:
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6516891
The video is over an hour long but very worthwhile if you want to learn more about how to optimize your setup.
I took the liberty of taking screenshots of what I thought were critical points in the presentation:
(The following are not my opinion, only excerpts from Daves descriptions)
1. Signs of rebound damping problems, and what neutral throttle looks like
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear1.jpg
2. More damping issues, only this one is almost catastrophic
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear2.jpg
3. An example of an ideal setup
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear3.jpg
4. Dangerous - if you see this dont go back on track without making geometry changes
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear4.jpg
5. Air pressure issues
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear5.jpg
6. The opposite air pressure issue
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear6.jpg
7. Air pressure issues on a multi-compound tire
http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz33 ... ewear7.jpg
Hope this helps.
Shaun.

Re: Reading Tires
I'd be at the next one if I could, but on thursdays the wife and I babysit our 2 nephews while their parents are working/in class. That means we have 3 boys under 10 in the house until 9. If I even suggested that I wanted to leave the wife alone with them to go socialise she'd shoot me.
I'm hoping to catch up with whoever from the club will be at Cresson for the next Ridesmart day. Looking forward to testing out my new suit! (thread with pics in riding gear forum)

Suit looks good - I hope you never need to test it.
But see how well it keeps you cool with the venting.
