Quick Shifter Quest

Anyone have any experience with these? seams like the potential for tranny damage is still there, I use the cutch 99.99% of the time but this would be a pretty cool toy.

I use the clutch downshifting (no slipper clutch on my bike) and the shift from 1st to 2nd.
That looks like it's intended for racing only.
For the money, Nitrous might be more fun.

I would think Nitrous would be more fun but also I would think Nitro would hurt the bike more than the quickshift. I have been looking into the PC quickshift for my bike.... trying to decide between the quickshift and airshift really.

No real interest in nitrous, my 750 has more than enough power for me to tackle as it is, hell so does a 600 for that matter in terms of me being able to push the machine to its limits, I can't, so no need to up that limit.

If I had one wish for power on my 750 it would be just for better bottom end torque, without a bottle of course :-)

you should check out Bazzaz. They make fuel controlers, tracton control, and quick shift. or you can get them all in one package. Really don't need the fuel controler if you don't have an headers etc... but its a cool item that has good reviews

Traction control seams neat but not sure I'm hip on it, and its not really needed its not like I'm running a turbo or anything.

I just thought the shift thing looked like it might be "fun" to do

It'd be a neat toy but unless you are drag racing, or doing some serious road racing there's no real need. I'd save my money and spend it on something else. One thing shifters like that do make real easy, shifting while doing a wheelie. :wheelie:

As for wear and tear on the tranny, and take this for what it is, an oppion of someone who knows very little about trannys. I don't believe clutchless shifting (done correctly) has any danger of doing any damage. The reason for the clutch is to remove the pressure/strain on the tranny to make the shift. With the sequential shifters of bikes it's very very easy to quickly change gears so the strain releaf when backing off the throttle is enough to allow you to shift gears and get back on it.

Yeah, unless you're a serious road racer or a drag racer, quick shifters won't give you much. If you're really good on the road track, a quick shifter might shave a second or two off your lap times. That's important if you're someone like in the top of the expert classes (like Ty Howard, Dustin Dominguez, etc). Or if you're drag racing it might save you a fraction of a second. Again, that's important if you're a serious drag racer.

I personally wouldn't mess with one.

Just to let yall know I will have my quickshifter put on Tuesday. I will let you know what I think after that. Also FYI if you are wanting to use it for drag racing the airshifter is more consistant but I will use mine all the time so the airshifter is not a good choice for me. Plus I dont think I would liek the airshifter much on a road track either. However if you are making a dedicated drag bike then airshifter is the way to go.

The indian bridge would be fine with me. I only have 1 rule. You pay for damages or the 1000 deductable. Seriously though I would be fine with that or any other place for the most part.

I've been looking at that one for a while. I like the Bazzaz products, but I'm still on the fence about a quickshifter. Traction control, on the other hand, would definitely be a neat addition.

I snooped around on some other forums and it appears a lot of people that install them really like them.

I saw the unit that has the traction control and quickshift all in one unit, but I'm not sure traction control on a 750 would be worth it

Ok well there was one problem... the wrong part came in so they didnt get it done till yesterday. I had other things going on so I wasnt able to play with it a whole lot .... but I did play will it as much as I could on the way home last night........ Wait for it..... It was great. It becomes active at 4k rpm's and you dont have to be full throttle to use it. Which makes it great for just chilling.... at first I thought it took to long but then realized it was about my foot and not the system ... pull your toe up quick and drop it back down quick for the best results. The shift is smooth and very fast if you move your foot fast. Then there was the wide open almost redline shifts...... WOW! Those seem even better (quicker and smoother) than the lower rpm shifts. I would recomend this kit to anyone for sure. After a few more times out I will let you know more.

I read that around town shifting a lot of people use classic clutch shifting to smooth out the lower rpm shifts, but when they power on the ink they use the quick shifter as it works better under hard acceleration.

I could see it but so far ... and I havent done a whole lot of shifting without hard acceleration.... it seems fine. Now that I think of it there isnt many times that I am not under hard acceleration ever. :))

So how does it work? Is it just disengaging and re-engaging the clutch for you, and you still have to move the shifter lever? Or do you just push a button and bam new gear?
