I love the way they sound at the track, and everything I have read about them says they are fun.

even a smooth clutchless doesn't give you that seamless change in tone with a nice pop.

That's an expensive solution to sound "cool" on the track...

Well yeah, anybody that just spent hundreds of dollars on something is going to talk it up.

Personally I don't want my bike kicking me in the pants instantly like that. I prefer to smooth it out with the clutch. I don't even clutchless shift on the track anymore. I tried it and it doesn't really work for me.

DemonDuck has one though, you can talk to him and see how he liked it on the track.

Yeah, for the type of riding we all do at the track a quick shifter is pointless other then the "cool" factor. It can also help with wheelies, use to ride with a guy who would shift up to 4th before setting it down.

I guess my other take on it is that even if it's fun to play with, is it 3 track days worth of fun?

Right, like 3 other track days.

I know that Fixxer and Telomere always talk about having to scrape together the cash to go to the track. It seems like a quick shifter wouldn't be as much fun for the money as going back to the track a few more times. But then again, it's not my money.

We always seem to scraping together the money for track days because we have kids and something ALWAYS happens once we seem to ahead. :-o

I would give up track days for him to get a quickshifter or new exhaust or whatever he wants. As of right now, the track will always be there and RS will continue to have track days (I can't foresee anything to prevent them from no longer doing them) so he can upgrade his bike all he wants. I don't care. If everything looks good and nothing unexpected happens and we are ahead, he can upgrade his bike all he wants. I enjoyed the track A LOT but I also enjoy a husband who has new upgrades to his toys too!! :D

Always? :HeadScratch: I don't recall always talking about having to scrape together cash to go to the track or even wanting to always go to the track so I'm not sure what you mean.

We had to get the money together for her gear and all of that, and yea we had to scrape it up caues we had to get it all at once and its not cheap. We aren't rich and I have mouths to feed along with another hobby that drains blood out of me so if your are trying to imply that I don't go to the track because I blow my money on things like, quick shifters, I'm not sure where you going or what your point is. Obviously the track isn't my highest priority.

I opted out of doing two days at the track because I laid out big bucks for an item not related to motorcycles, I'm not rich so I had to choose and I chose not to do a track day, I don't feel any less of a man for doing so, and would make the same choice again, the track will still be there.

I have no desire to go to the track all of the time, and I ride the street a lot, if I want to spend money on something that I think will add to the enjoyment of a hobby then, ok, so what if I skip a track day or two to do it, I didn't buy the bike "for the track" I bought the bike to ride it, and I do, a lot, and the track is just one more place I like to ride it.

I plan on buying rear sets for the 250 and clip ons, I'll probably have to sacrafice a track day or two, to buy them, I don't see that as a problem.

Sounds like spending money on a quick shifter would be a wrong thing for you to do.
milesmiles wrote:fixxer you got a good wife, now go get a quickshifter & slicks lol j/k
Nah don't want slicks, not good enough to take advantage of them and don't have tire warmers etc, my Q2's are fine, I was just seriously curious about them becuase they were talking them up yet I didn't feel I was any where near having my Q2's holding me back.

The quickshifter can wait, its a pure want, nice to have. I'll put clip-ons and rearsets on the 250 before I get a quickshifter. I see the clip-ons and rear sets as function and the quickshifter is straight bling.

Sticky tires make a hell of a difference, but if you're at the stage where MoS can still pass you on his 250, tires is not what you need. ha! Not saying you, or anyone that get's pass by MoS on his 250 is slow, just saying, if you can't keep up with a 250 on a good sized track such as cresson, you've got a lot of skill work needed before worrying about bike upgrades.

And if you're really tearing up your tires, might be worth it to double check the suspension and air pressures in the tires.

speaking of air pressure i'm going to start keeping a journal like shaun recommend. Which includes current temp of the day/time and hot and cold tire temps not to mention the tires i'm running etc....

Overall, what does that tell you at the end of the tire's life? Does that help the longevity of the life? I am just curious because it sounds interesting to track the conditions (temps, psi etc) when you take it out on the road.

My tires aren't torn up bad in a bad way, they are torn up good, in a good way so I didn't mean they were trashed :D

I have no idea if he can never been on the track with him, its an assumption that he can pass me on his 250, I'm not going to argue with it because if he does it'll just be twice the salt.

I'm looking to spend exactly $0 to make my bike faster as the limiting factor is currently me, I was simply curious about the tires and how much of a difference they really make since they were pushing them so hard.

edit: I would like to actually have someone that knows how to read tires really well look at my end result, they look fine to me just track chewed but I can't tell if they were too hot/cold or just right. They felt fine when I got off the track and the pressures didn't swing all over the palce, no sliding, I assume I was at least close to where they needed to be.

I think if your tires look like mine, they're running too hot. I picked up all kinds of junk off the track and seriously balled up my tires at Barber.

I ran a couple pounds more pressure at MSRC and the tires did a lot better in terms of wear.
