Bags are suppose to be soft I guess it depends on what type of bags you are talking about. Those tail bags of his will be full come Wednesday

No way, hard bags or nothing for me from now on.
My major gripe about soft bags is that they're not really waterproof. I'm not a fan of the rain covers that come with soft bags, too easy to lose them. Of course the downside to hard bags is that you have to actually mount them, you can't get your bike back looking totally bagless without a lot of work.
Shouldn't be a problem for you guys though, the weather is supposed to be nice for your whole trip.
