Miles, how old is your front tire? And do you regularly check the pressure? My Versys tire got a bit cupped in the rear when I ran it too low for way too long.

I've had the tires since NOV. and yes i ran them too low for a long time. I know it's my fault i was just being lazy and stupid, but now i have an air compressor in my garage so that is no longer an issue. So question is....do i need to get another one before i do a trackday?

I got a new one just because of the tire age, my front Q2 right now is not cupped but has like 8,000+ miles on it and the compound has hardened up a bit, going to put a fresh one on it then swap back after the track day and reserve my "new" Q2 just for track days.

The best thing I did was buy a second set of wheels.

Well i took the wheel off today and i'm getting a new rear put on today. I'll run on the front for awhile until the track day and then i'll put a new one on before. I really don't have the money, but it's better to pay and not take a chance i guess.

I don't think it's all that bad, but this is the first time i've really noticed that on a tire. The dry rot is only in the tread marks and it's not bad, i'll get a pic up once i get home

I don't think that is dry rot, more like being heat worked with hardening, how old and how many miles?

My front does that after its "heat cycled out" for lack of a better term (or my ignorance) I keep it going on the street.

My rear tire just doesn't last long enough to get that hard.

For some strange reason my quick shifter causes my back tires to go away faster, I wonder why? :HeadScratch:

I believe they have close to 6000 miles on them. If they are good for the track i'm fine with keeping them on (saves me money), but i just want a good opinion

I will defer to those that know more than me, but I beleive those would be from working the tire / heat cycles.

If you want to see what dry rot bike tires look like go to cycle gear off 183, there are a set of tires off of a 2001 ninja in there that are dry rot :-)

And that is exactly why I got a new front tire for the track, not so much fear of blow out but more for performance, the Q2 gets work hardened pretty easy from what I can tell, plenty fine for street duty but for track I want fresh rubber.

Truth be told even after they are hardened up they are probably still fine for track duty at my level. If your feeling confident in it's grip I'd run it if it were me, but that's me.

Oh and if your worried about passing tech, take a tip from the fastest indian and fill in the cracks with black shoe polish :-)

As far as grip goes i feel pretty confident in them. I'll ride to bike night next week and see what everyone says. I'm smooth like keith stone

i'm about 90% sure i'm going. If anyone wants/needs to store their bike in my garage the night before, or a place to crash let me know. I'm less than 30min from the track.

Will I have any need for a lap timer on level 1? I can get one cheap and will end up buying one at some point but just curious.

Not really, and especially not if it's your first time out.

You can tell if you're improving by how many people you end up needing to pass. But lap timers in L1 don't make much sense because you can get stuck in traffic a lot if you're faster than most.

I'll probably do level 1, I've only ever done ECR once and my lines sucked, its not my favorite track due to all the target fixation with those patches and the double apex turns.

BUT, I don't have a membership at cresson so beggers can't be choosers :D

If I do level2 I will probably skip out on class for this one.

It's payday, so are we doing this or not?
