Bike insurance

Post by DLSGAP » Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:16 am

Ok so I accidentally let my coverage lapse. Got a new debit card and forgot to update state farm so my auto draft didn't go through and it canceled in April apparently. They're looking into whether they can reinstate my policy, but I looked into other options just incase. Progressive, geico, Dairyland all want way too much.

Having never used insurance for anything i think it's a scam so I want to pay as little as possible. I was curious what some others are paying with what companies...

yeah, it is a bit of a scam, but as some one who has used it...multiple times...it is nice when it works and I don't believe State Farm will ever get all their money back from me no matter how long a stay with them. ha! If you skimp on parts of coverage I highly highly recommend the uninsured/underinsured coverage.

I use Allstate and pay like 200 and some change a year for my RR. I consider that to be pretty cheap.

I've been paying 96 a month with state farm.. Down from 125 because I dropped something that wasn't needed. Cheapest quote I got today was 115 a month... Dairyland wanted over 200

Well in my experience, the only reason I need it is because the state and bank say I do
.. Especially since I'm just biding time to sell this bike and go solely with a track bike

Thanks for mentioning Allstate. I had forgotten about them. Same coverage I had with state farm, but 34 a month less

Mine is 200 a year. and i could get it even cheaper but i have some coverage on there for the passangers as a just in case kind of thing. The geico guys would even quote me because of my age and the type of bike.

I had to lie on my application with a couple of them. Apparently being 33 with 25 years of riding experience isn't feasible.

And even though I got my license at 14, I had to adjust for 16 because it said 16 was the youngest age allowable to calculate from

I don't know why the hell insurance rapes me so. I've got a 750+ credit rating, no accidents, no tickets, no nothing like that on my record. Yet, still the CHEAPEST I could get on the ZX-10R was 130/mo, and I'm currently the cheapest possible at 85/mo but only when State Farm made me switch my cars to them (at a premium over Progressive).

But all of the big carriers besides State Farm wanted in the ballpark of $2000-3000 per year. That's just stupid expensive. I'm convinced it has to do with Tarrant County and the area I live, but I don't know why. Home insurance is stupid expensive too. State Farm (even with all the multi-car discounts and such) wanted for the cheapest home insurance policy of $2500/year, on a 130k home. I've got friends that have 300k+ homes that pay what I'm paying for mine. It's almost like I'm on some insurance list somewhere that says "anally rape him".

I'm praying that moving to Denton saves me considerable cash.

I need to talk to someone in the insurance industry that can give me the straight dope. Most agents have no clue, they punch info in a computer and get back a giant flashing number to pay. I wanna know how the rates are calculated and compared against my neighbors.

With computers these days I doubt anyone really knows that information anymore. Even the guy that wrote the program probably doesn't fully understand it.

I pay a little over 500 for a year of full coverage for a 750cc with a shitty driving record from progressive. I go through an agent named Pete Robinson in Arlington. Way cheaper than the online quotes.

I pay 90/m and 140/m in the summer with dairyland for full coverage. I think they were the best rate i could fine.

I would never use progressive again. They are high, they don't cover mishaps at the track from what I understand, they (more than other providers) are looking for a way to not pay out.

And if you weren't aware. In Texas you are not required by law to carry full cover on a motorcycle even if it is financed. Although the finance company may "require" you to.

Na, full coverage isn't really necessary on a bike that's a few years old. I should probably drop mine actually. Any go down would total it out and they're not going to give me much for it anymore.
