Do me a favour and post a comment. Maybe explain what armco is? I never realised it was exclusively an Australian thing. Whats the american equivalent?

i pulled the comments section off this blog and put it on the new blog I just finished about COTA. If you've ridden that track, let me know your thoughts. If you havent, tell us how much you'd like to!

I've never heard that term. Are you talking about the guard rails? I think that's the more generic term people are familiar with.

thanks guys, the feedback helps.

I'm testing some visitor tracking software on my own site in preparation for installing it on ridesmart.info

if anyone has time, please check out my training site - http://shilka-tech-racing.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so i can see if the details are being captured as planned.

Thanks again for the help.

6:51pm I clicked around; hope that helps. Are you looking for basics such as IP, browser and time visited?

I'm not sure what this software will return, but anything is better than nothing. I'll see what the report says when it arrives. I just know that Dave wants more sales leads so I'm trying to put all this targeted marketing technology to work somehow.

I just hit your site also.

Just FYI, your FAQ page returns a 404.

Thanks guys. The report came in and shows 14 hits from the DFW area and Austin. I'm not quite sure how this kind of information can be converted into sales leads but that probably means i need to dig deeper into the functions.

Okay so it's just telling you (generally) who came to your site, the search "string" (if applicable) that navigated them to your site, what specifically they search for on your site and the pages they visit. Apparently you are supposed to get an email with details about your visitor such as social media info (like a spokeo thing I'm guessing). The company declares the software is geared toward prospective corporate leads. Not sure if that's beyond the scope of your needs. It's a start :) I wouldn't spend money on something I wouldn't really use either.

I poked around a few days ago. Oddly, the first time that I clicked it there was a main page that had a link to "teaching" or "training" or "instructing", something along those lines but now I can't get there.

Also, and I am using Chrome, from a non tech guy when I see lists like

"Pre-purchase Inspection
Exhaust Install
Japanese Valve Adjust
Paintwork
Italian Valve Adjust
Tire Change/Balance
Wheel Building
Safety Wiring"

and I scroll over it and it changes my mouse symbol to the link finger

Image

and I click on it and nothing happens it is kind of annoying. Might be a chrome thing. Might not happen in the others.

This isnt for my use - this is just a test before I decide if we want to install this software on ridesmart.info
if we could identify who is visiting the site then send them targeted mailings with special offers on COTA days Dave would be very happy.

That's easier to do with business than individuals. Especially business that have their own reserved static IP blocks.

For example you could probably identify my company when I browse from work, but good luck figuring out who I am from my home IP.

The #1 very best way to get a more targeted list is to get people to sign up for an e-mail list.

One thing I notice is that you can't sign up for the mailing list from every page on ridesmart.info. That should be easily accessible. Also you'd get a ton more people signing up if Dave just tied the deals he already does to signing up for the e-mail list, i.e. free leather rental or something like "sign up to win half-off a track day".

Oh I didn't think it was for personal use, no worries ;)

I think, and this is just my personal opinion, scrap the tracking software. If you haven't already with your site design, keep your keyword search and search intent queries (those lovely strings that people type into google and your site magically will be listed) up to date and you can never have too many ;) I agree with Rhino- your needs are pretty simple so the allure of "sign up for our mailing list to receive xyz" is great! Most people have no problem signing up for a mailing list to get free stuff or coupons. Have that available on every page your audience can view. Any form of social media you guys use, add it there as well.
