This video has the greatest variety of machines I ever saw gridded up together. 500cc 2-stroke GP machines, 750cc 4-stroke superbikes and 250cc 2-strokes. It also perfectly demonstrates a track day I did back in 1997 (or so) when I was riding my RC30 (same bike as featured in this clip) and my buddy was riding a 250cc 2-stroke (similar to the one in this clip).
I had the speed on the straight but after a few laps he had pulled so far ahead I couldnt catch up. At the time I was playing cat and mouse with a CBR900 but then the 250 did to me what I did to the CBR.
Horsepower isnt always the answer to lower lap times.

Would be cooler if I could tell who was on what bike in the vid, but I assume the 500cc bikes would slaughter the 250's in any descent straightaway

There's pretty much only one answer to lower lap times: higher average speed.
