1. I ususally just run whatever is on my bike at the time but if I had a choice I'd run Power one's on the track and conti road attact's on the street for some high milage.
2. Yes I have, its been a while but I remember the instructor telling us about turns and what to do if you get into the turn too hot. He was telling the all the cruiser type guys to try to scrub speed with the back brake and lean into it. He told all the sport bike guys to "grow a set and lean" chances are you have alot more lean angle to use.
3. suzuki's new SV flying prototype. we can get it to go up but it never comes back down again. so many test riders lost.

Random stuff I say:
Women are like square roots, if they're under 17 you just have to do them in your head.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an incline plane, wrapped helicly around an axis?

1. I really liked the M1 and M3s for both track and street. Haven't had a chance to run pure race tires at the track yet.
2. The only thing that stands out in my mind was the instructor telling us to shift to the opposite side of the bike when making a tight turn at slow speeds. Which is the correct thing to do and say 2mph but people seem to forgot that that is for slow speeds and try to do it at faster speeds and then wonder why they can't make the turn.
3. Spielberg's remake of E.T has Elliott all grown up but still flying.

1) I've only run the original tires on my bike (Pirelli) and the Pilot Power 2cts. So far for the track I'm liking the 2cts, but I did get a lot of milage out of those Pirelli's on the street.
2) I remember a few things from the MSF course. The main thing they drilled into our brains was "Strong headturn - Look thru the corner." The other thing I remember was to not be afraid to lean the bike over when cornering. Lastly, it was to not put your foot down, when making that figure 8 and u-turn in that little square box drawn on the ground.
3) After experience bike problems that kept him from running the race at Isle of Man he decided to race in the Baja 500 for his big race of the year.

1) Back in the day (20+ years ago) track tire was Metzlers, today I prefer Bridgstone 002 (straight race), all around tire track/street Pilot 2cts. Tried the Bridgestones BT016s.... they stick, but the front end never feels planted or as sure as the 2ct's.
2) I have put the ex-wife through the course, and plan to stick my new girl friend through the course next month. That being said I have not taken a MSF course in America. I did pass the Japanese safety course which is a lot tougher from what I have seen.
The one thing that I do remeber from my course was balancing on a 6in beam for 15 seconds moving less than 5mph. Note this was on my GSXR750 (before they were shipped to the states). Ok i am old. If you put your feet down or the bike comes off the beam... you fail. $1200 bucks gone and no license.
3) The engineers at KYB take suspension testing seriuosly. Takahashi (former 50cc World Champion) landed..... broke his leg and blew chunks.... but the fork seals never leaked, and the shock didn't blow.
Bimota DB6, 50 miles of smooth road and not one Straight...... Heaven.

Whatever I have on the bike. Right now it's Metzeler M3.
2) Have you taken the MSF? If so, what lessons do you remember most from it? If not, do you wish that you had, or do you plan to?
Yes. Wasn't paying attention. I only took it to get out of a ticket.

1. I would like to run the stickiest tires I can get my hands on, but finances usually dictate I run whatever is on my bike at the moment. I think the nicest, most confidence-inspiring tires I've run have been Metzler M3s.
2. Yes, BRC and ERC. Look where you want to go. Following this rule would have got me out of one of my crashes.

Never been on the track. I've used Dunlop Qualifiers and Pirelli CorsaIII, I like the Pirelli's better.
2) Have you taken the MSF? If so, what lessons do you remember most from it? If not, do you wish that you had, or do you plan to?
Took the MSF in '05, always wear your riding gear has always stuck in my head. This one guy didn't wear the required long sleeve shirt and the only long sleeve he had in his truck was his girfriends hoodie. he was about 5'9" and his girfriend seemed to be about 5' so that hoodie looked like spandex on him, his wrists were exposed. HILARIOUS!

Re: October Trackday Give Away
So far, I liked slicks the best. However, they were almost numb they were so planted. At my pace, the tires never even moved, so I never really got a good feel for what the bike was wanting to do. I want to try out something less grippy to get a feel for the bike moving. BT016s are probably next.DarcShadow wrote: 1) What tire do you like to run on the track? Yes. Look where you want to go was probably the most important thing I learned. I am also a believer in new riders spending some time in a gravel parking lot to learn to let the bike move as well as finding the limits of their brakes in a empty wet/dry parking lot.DarcShadow wrote:2) Have you taken the MSF? (On a side note: The guy in that picture took 3rd place in a field of 10 against 9 motards! Talk about skill!)
