Torque for Stator cover?!?!?
Ok I laid my bike down...well actually it's more like I dragged it down a Farm Market road... and replaced my stator cover this morning and now i have a little bit of oil dripping out of it. Its not a whole lot of oil just a few drops but it is still to much. i have looked all over the net and can not find any info about the proper torque for the bolts. When I tightned them I did not have a toque wrench and was very worried about breaking a bolt or cracking the cover so i just tightned them till I thought it was tight enough. Does any one know the proper torque? My bike is a 09 GSXR 600.
I've got the 06/07 service manual for the GSXR-600, they don't specify a torque pattern, however I'm sure just like anything, it should be done in a star pattern. The torque for all engine cover bolts (generator cover, clutch cover, oil cooler, etc.) are 10 N·m (1.0 kgf-m, 7.0 lb-ft). That's not much. Also, Suzuki doesn't change much when it comes to engine torque specs, so I'm pretty sure the 06/07 torque settings are the same on an 09.
You didn't say whether or not you used a new gasket, if you didn't you'll definitely want to get a new one. That's the leading cause of any engine oil leakage around a cover.
Oh, and good luck to you bud!
