No one could do worse than Lucas did. Seriously, the most disappointing experience I ever had in a theater was seeing "The Phantom Menace".

Actually the original trilogy did get released on LaserDisc, and to this day remains the definitive version. Disney will make their money back if they manage release and "un-Lucased" version on BluRay.

I traded a capture card for a player and several disks for the "cool" factor.

A lot of the old technology has cool factor. FDDI, Laser Disc, Magnetic Optical, 15" floppy disks etc
