Any avid skydivers?

Post by Stardog » Sun Sep 29, 2013 5:58 pm

I have been wanting to learn for quite some time. I have flown plenty of airplanes but never jumped out of one. I have bungeed a couple of times and it was a great feeling. I really want to dive. Anyone feel like going soon?

I've done it. Got more of a rush from riding to the jump than I did from the jump itself.

Was it the anticipation? I would assume so because light aircraft are neat, kind of in the same way that a vintage Indian motorcycle is neat. Something that I will be into again when I am old but right now just seems really boring.

No. I hit like 140 on the ride, then was a little disappointed when they were trying to impress people by telling them they would hit 120 during free fall. I think the biggest reason why I wasn't nervous or all that excited is it was a tandom jump so I really didn't do anything was just along for the ride.

I've done it but it wasn't the adrenaline rush I expected. It didn't feel like I was falling. either because I was strapped to someone or the fact that you just take the momentum from being in the plane and send it downward.

I would most likely be in if yall went.

The place I went was in Sugarland. The group I went with choose that location because they have the nicest facilities/equipment and do tons of jumps. However there are several places around here you can go. One near Hillsboro and one just south east of decatur.

Actually before I started avidly riding I thought of getting into the wing suits. It is still something I would like to try but you must have a lot of experience before you can attempt it.

Yeah I would really like to be a wing suit pilot. I read a quote where someone said that if airplanes are flying then riding in a boat is swimming. It was kind of like that going from cars to bikes. The romance and mystique surrounding the freedom flight is largely lost when piloting an aircraft. Now a wing suit, THAT is flying. But I know that you have to have a lot of jumps on you before you can even consider that kind of silliness.

Shadow, the course to do your jump solo is about $900 the last time I checked. I would be down if you would.

Yeah, but your body doesn't make adrenaline.

To jump solo you have to do some static jumps first. Only way to free fall on your first jump is tandem. I ask bailout where a good place to jump was and he suggested a place done near Austin as the best place I'm Texas to jump from.

The reason it doesn't feel like your falling is after a few seconds you reach terminal and stop accelerating.

I think it's around 250 but that's just a guess from a vague memory of an over heard conversation.

Yeah I've heard it ranges from 200-250 depends on who you're strapped too. I think they don't allow anything over 400 combined weight.

I'm borderline, they would have to strap me to a scrawny guy to stay under 400, even if they let me jump naked.

Same here. If Valentino does dive instruction then I could put him on like a backpack and be good to go. Lets try to set something up for October 19th or 20th?

Too close for me, I've got expenditures coming up, I need some time to lose weight too.

Halloween and Christmas are expensive times of year for me.
