Do you already have boots and leathers or are you renting them from RS?

:rockout: You will have fun...well, I hope you do anyways. I have yet to hear or meet someone that didn't like doing a trackday.

I plan on having fun. It will just be a different learning curve from racing stand up jetskis.

Just a little bit. They are actually quite similar :D

You will learn a lot. Just go out and focus on learning one or two things, like correct body position and lines. Don't try to learn it all at your first trackday.

You're going to have a blast! Like Telomere said, take it easy and focus on technique, rather than speed. It is very much okay to go slow, but it is frowned upon to ride beyond your skills.

Leatherneck just did his first track day two days ago, and looked like he was having a lot of fun.

The key thing that can't be stressed enough, look ahead. Look where you think you should be looking, then look past that point. When you're coming into a turn you should have already found the apex and be looking for the exit. When you're at the apex you should be looking for the entrance to the next turn. Always, always, look as far ahead as possible. Both on the track and the street.

My first ever trackday, the instructors kept repeating that over and over. It got to the point where you wanted to say, ok I get it, but it's that critical, and in general, most people don't look nearly far enough ahead.

I learned to look ahead jetski racing. I would look at for the next buoy while setting up for the turn before. Just like on a bike where your head looks you and machine will follow.

Excellent advice, Matt.

Agree with Benny, excellent advice. I can honestly remember forgetting to look through the turn and screwing up my turn, then snapping back remembering to turn my head to look through the turn and voila, took the lines great, etc. This is one thing that can't be stressed enough. On a bike, you go where you're looking... this also applies with target fixation. You see something in the road, you stare at it, then you run right over it thinking you were going to miss it. Karl did that with a 2x4 once :D And other people have gone right off the road into the ditch... or worse.

Look where you want to go, and you'll go there.
