Phone radar detector

Post by milesmiles » Mon Mar 19, 2012 1:20 pm

They have this for the iphone and android so don't freak out people just because i showed the iphone one. Anyways i really need to read some reviews, but i think this is where technology is going....everything will work from our phones!

Or like that particular product, everything will require a smartphone for complicated display that distracts you from driving instead of a simple chirp that lets you keep your eyes on the road.

I saw that thing in the Apple store over the weekend. I just shook my head at it.

Dude, I have a windshield dock for my Galaxy S2, and it has a hole for the camera. I got a free dashboard cam app. As soon as I put it in the windshield dock, it goes to the hands-free voice menu. It's my GPS, my dashboard cam. My hands-free texting and hands-free phone. And I'm sure it won't be long and there will be radar detector module for android soon enough.

If it gave me a reacharound, I'd be content.

Oh yeah, add to it bluetooth directly into my truck so it can play back music directly from an internet connection. That's beamed from SPACE. Effin'A.

When you get it let me know how it works. I can tell you that it seems my cheap $120 radar detector has a better range than my $300 one.

Along the same lines but different. Escort has a new detector that connects to your smart phone and then links in with other running the app and shows you where other detectors have detected something along your route. Sounds like a great warning system for cops that use the instant on type radar.

Probalby wouldn't work to well on the bike since you wouldn't be able to see/hear your as easily as in a car but it's an interesting idea anyway.

According to americanmotorcyclist.com they are ok in Texas but I'm not sure how accurate that page is and I know it does vary from state to state. I'd be surpised if they were explicitly denied for bikes but allowed in cars, then again, there are thousands of strange/stupid laws out there.

I have ridden in several states with a radar detector on the bike. I dont believe there is a different law for bike on it.
If there is a different law on it then I will deal with that when they ticket me for it. I will fight it to the last cent after all what is the difference that would make it illegal on the bike.

Probably something along the same lines that techincally it's illegal to ride with just one hand on the handlebar yet you can drive with just one hand.

Does it have good range?

You know the biggest reason I have not tried hard to get a new radar detector is because when I speed on the bike it is usually fast enough that I would need a really good range.

I'd have to ck the specs but seems ok for a car but don't think it would be good enough for a bike.
