Bluetooth headsets

Post by mokishea » Fri Jul 12, 2013 4:30 pm

I'm looking at getting a headset for my helmet bc my new one (that actually fits) is too tight now to wear my headphones underneath without my ears hurting. I know there are a few options, a guy at CycleGear was trying to sell me on UClear. The sound quality for music wasn't quite what I was hoping for, but I don't imagine it gets much better.

Sound quality is really important. I liked the fully hands free aspect as well as the aesthetic design of the UClear too. I don't mind a mic as long as it's a wire I can mount; I don't want that ugly boom mic sticking out of my helmet. As far as earbuds vs. speakers, I like that earbuds block out more wind noise, but they can also be really annoying when taking the helmet off and on if they get moved from the right position in you me ear.

What do y'all suggest?

We have 10 or so members who use a Sena, including myself. We all bought the ones with the flat mic. I absolutely love them. People can call me, I can listen to my music, even text using Siri and link up to four riders. They use speakers, but I don't even know they are there and yes, we all wear out earplugs with them

Only complaint is when linking 4riders it gets confusing and has been known to drop someone. Other than that I give the product 8/10. Battery life is outstanding and quality/sound volume is as well. Range for linking is superb

They just came out with a new smaller model, but we all have the cheaper old ones. I highly recommend. Check someone's out at bike night next time

Do you know the model numbers for the one y'all have and the new one so I know I'm looking at the right ones online?

Oh I see, the new one must be the SMH10R. That's pretty sweet. Much smaller than the UClear too.

They're a heck of a lot cheaper than UClear too. At least they are on amazon.

Well make sure you get the correct one with the actual unit. Cost 120-140 and you want the flat mic

There's a link at the bottom of the forms to the place we got them from. If you really want to go the ear bud route, you can get a base unit for the Sena's that has detachable speakers and uses, I believe, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

I've only looked at the SMH10R but I don't think I'd like it as well. It is so think because the battery is in a separate pack that they suggest mounting to the back of your helmet.

I went ahead and ordered the SMH10R. I've seen several reviews saying people were able mount it on the inside of the back of their helmets. I'll let you know if I'm successful and how comfortable it is.

How did the 10R work?

Mounting issues?

I like it a lot. It's really glitchy though if you hold the button down too short or too long but you don't run into that problem very often once you get the hang of how it works. I've got a pretty nice set up now with the bluetooth, phone mount, and touch interactive gloves!

Mounting was tricky and took a while but that's also cause I'm really OCD about things being just right. I don't notice the battery underneath the cushion at all so I went ahead and velcroed it in, you have to put in upside down so it curves with the helmet. The hardest part was positioning the speakers on my ears. And with the wires you have to figure out the best way to tuck them in depending on your helmet. With the speakers right against my ears it cuts down a lot of wind noise too.

Bought the same thing, took just about exactly the same route mounting the battery. Working on getting radar hooked up now. Yes, it requires some patience mounting.
