Post by toy752 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 8:11 am

I need some advice on back protectors. I am in the market to buy one and would like to know what is a good one to buy.

I've had two, one is the icon filed vest. It includes a chest protector. It did not breathe what so ever and I questioned icons safety, seeing as it's marketed to squids. But there is a RIDESMART instructors that uses the same one. Now I use an alpine stars and the build quality feels to me like it should. Also breathes better. Keep in mind for future use that these need to fit under leathers. My icon had shoulder straps and this made it fit awkward in my already tight suit. That's and the build quality are the main reasons I sold it. Knox is expensive, but would be the choice if I had the money

I currently use the Alpinestars Bionic back protector, and have been very happy with it. It fits well and has protected me when I needed it.

I need one also, but I know I'm going to have a tough job just getting me into my new suit...I think I ate a few too many pop-tarts over the winter.

I have the same protector Striple. Keep in mind that you can buy the alpinestars bionic jacket(like I did) and the back protector unzips from it. Two in one. Pretty sweet

I've been using this for a while and very happy with it. http://www.highvelocitygear.com/backprotector.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
CE level 2 certified, good fit, and lots of adjustability. I have a Knox too but I like this one better.

I've got a Dainese wave back protector. It fit's into the pocket the foam crap was in, on both my jackets. Good quality, sturdy, and breathes well to. It's perfect for the street I just move it between jackets. I plan on getting a full length back protector for the track eventually.

since I will be moving up to level 2 in May I will be getting a back protector now. I am looking at the Knox Aegis back protector. Is the Aegis track vest any better? Looks like it would get way to hot in our Texas heat.

I have a Dainese barely used you can borrow, try out at Cresson if you like. Fits in the pocket of your suit in place of that crappy foa...wait, someone already said that.

Here is a pic of it.

Here is what I now use, mostly due to the chest-cracking-open-surgery in October. Comfy, breathes, saved my back and chest both at ECR.

Forcefield makes some fantastic armor. I have one of their back protectors, too.
