If you've done lvl 2 in the past, just go for it. You'll quickly get bored or frustrated in lvl 1.

I'm a contrarian here. I always enjoyed running a comfortable pace in L1 and enjoyed the challenge the slower guys presented. Pushes your skills alittle bit without the pressure of keeping up in the faster level.

Hehe, I am very much a newbie. Once I get some more seat time. I went out to Addison and back tonight. Good ride but need some more time. I will come out to the meet next month.
The track is a great place to get seat time. And it will teach you to be a better street rider. You won't have distractions like traffic, traffic lights, pot holes, gravel, etc to worry about. All you have to do is get comfortable with you and your motorcycle. And with the discounts for first timers, it will be an awesome time.

I feel like I would be more danger out there for other riders currently. I am a member at the track but like the schools that are offered here since they really do help make you understand what is going on and how to improve. Maybe sometime this summer but most likely next year though. I noticed the last Ride Smart that the novice group had kind of a duck with ducklings aspect going on. Do they just have a leader that shows LVL 1 the lines? Or was that just people falling behind?

That's called the round robin, for the first session out in LVL1 and LVL2 they do a whole session at a slow to medium pace and in instructor shows you the lines, then they turn you lose. Throughout the day you can be teamed up with an instructor and there are classroom sessions.

How many miles have you put in the seat, do you have competence over the basic controls of your motorcycle?

I'll say the track is not a good place to learn how to ride a motorcycle, however if you've got that part covered (comfortable, shifting, braking etc) then the track is the best place to improve your skills.

If you have a Sena headset then life is that much better/easier on the track.

At one point I would have agreed, but I have gone back and forth between 1 and 2, and I still have fun. Going down to 1 is all about adjusting your mindset and your expectations.

I have put about 600 miles on this bike. Back in 05/06 I used to ride and I did a cross country trip to Deals Gap and back for a rotary g2g. But I am really familiar with the track setting and right now, I am not ready for it.

I will check out that headset when it comes time to that.

I will just be spectating for a while :)

If I make the trip to Cresson I ride both days to make it worth all the prep. This time though it's a half price trip because I got a track credit for xmas. I'll be getting there Friday night so I'll try to grab a space under cover next to the classroom.

I had the same reservations about my first motorcycle track day. I was the same in that I had done autoX and track days in my car, but never on a bike. There are some faster folks in level 1 and some REALLY slow ones. Even if you are really slow, it's still a fun time. I even did my first one on my Angel GT touring tires. Never even got close to the limit of those tires. I have since bought separate wheels for the bike and put Q3s on it so I don't thrash my street tires. Felt like I was really fast at the track, but I was REALLY slow. I've been progressing, but have stayed in Level 1 for a long time. I really need to work on body position. Once I have a better handle on that I think I will step up to Level 2. It's the rider's responsibility who is behind you not to hit you or do something dangerous. If you think, "well that could work or maybe if I get lucky" then it's better that you just don't do whatever it is in Level 1. I had been riding about 8 months (maybe 5000 miles) when I did my first one, but I had no motorcycle experience prior to this except getting my motorcycle license back in 1992. I never rode after getting it. Everyone in Level 1 runs at their own pace. The instructors are pretty attentive and will give pointers/coaching.

There might be a small chance I can make it on the 17th. If so probably will be on the BMW but maybe the trackbike. Still a bunch going on with the move and all so I cant be sure yet.
