Headset for riding

Post by Bewst » Sat Feb 18, 2012 1:04 pm

Yes I know it's not the safest thing. But every sport I have done, I enjoy listening to music while I do it. My step brother turned me onto these and I had to get a set.

Worn under your helmet all you have to do is push on the side of your helmet to pause the music or to answer a call/make a call. Since I have an iPhone 4S I can do pretty much anything by talking to Siri over these, lol.

You can find them online for $40ish

Now that I think of it, I push my helmet, tell Siri to call Bryce and now I'm talking with the person I'm riding next to, lol

Safe: No
Works great: Yes

To some people it may be distracting or unsafe not to hear your surroundings. Although if you tap your helmet it makes it an open mic making it easier to hear anything around you. I just figured I'd have some people saying that it's not safe, so I added it in there, lol

Well you are talking on the phone so that does take some concentration away from riding. I have a bluetooth helmet that worked ok. Hard to hear people on the highway, but there are tons of things like this on the internet. I know some of the guys use scalas etc... But yeah i love music while riding as well

For music I just use some ear buds that are kind of like ear plugs with speakers built in.

For talking I have a scala modified to take ear buds

For fast stuff, ear plugs only.

I have the scala ... need to modify one to take the earbuds so I can get better sound but then I need to find some earbuds that stay in my ear well when putting the helmet on.

I don't care one way or the other if people use them, but just be aware earbuds are technically illegal to wear while riding or driving. Ear plugs are illegal as well unless you have specifically fitted ones.

Has anyone gotten a ticket or extra charge on the ticket for having them in? First or second hand experience only please. Just curious.

I didn't really want to start a new thread just for this, but i just found out that truck drivers, 18 wheelers, are not allowed to use their cell phones anymore unless they have a headset! I think this is great for us motorcycle riders safety!

I'm more concerned about the bimbo putting on her make up or texting.

Lol i agree! Usually the truck drivers are the ones who know what they are doing, because it's their job. But with them driving something sooo freaking big it is almost impossible to see little old me.

Had a cop tell me once that he thought they were illegal. Told him to find out and pull me over next time he sees me and let me know. Havent been stopped by him again so im guessing not.

I think the actual wording allows for wearing them in one ear. I also think it says the right ear if you're driving, but I'm not sure on that one.

As for truck drivers I would say that them on the phone is not such a bad thing.... maybe that is the only thing keeping them awake. I use to drive for US express over the road and I can tell you that I had a few times that I was pushing it hard enough that I was using the brail system more than I should have.
