Ride this Weekend

Post by DLSGAP » Tue May 15, 2007 9:07 am

My cousins birthday is this weekend and while I've been riding nearly 20 years with plenty of experience on curves he's a bit skiddish on them. He's been riding 4 years now but just doesn't have the time on the curves that he needs to gain the confidence to lean it over

Anyone have any suggestions for some decent rides CLOSE to DFW that I could take him on for some moderate riding this weekend. Nothing big...maybe 150-200 miles tops.

Or are any of the group leaders planning to head out this weekend?

Thanks in advance

I'd love to see the answer also. I've got a route planned out in the gps, but i picked it just by looking at a map. Down to Hico and back. 254 round trip.

FM 4, 51, 1189 and 1187 all reasonably close and pretty good. 51 is some of the twistiest road around. There's been a lot of truck traffic on it lately though so it's not as sweet of a road as it use to be but it's still a lot of fun.

You forgot 1188, it connects to 1189. 1187 is straight and boring.

Cheers!

Closer to you would be 157 south from Mansfield down to Maypearl. Terry has a favorite up north of you, but I can't remember what it is. Anybody remember that road with all the maze fields on either side and 15 miles of sweepers?

That's why you don't wear the front tire out here :-) You don't know where all the cool roads are.

Dragonfly just posted a moderate ride for Sat. that would be perfect for you and your cousin.

It's located in the "Saturday" section.

157 is a dog. There's a lot of construction on it and because of the construction trucks, the roads are getting worse. But, you can take 157 all the way to Maypearl, then turn right at the T intersection (by the gas station). Go through town and the road turns into FM 916. You can ride it to I35W. It has some good sweepers and tight curves. Be careful though, parts of the road are going bad. The good news is that they're repaving it. They started at I35W end and it looks like they're working their way to Maypearl.

Hope this helps.
Ima grip and sip.
