I know it's kind of a specialized tool, but check at Auto Zone and/or O'Reily auto parts. They both have free tool loaner programs.

Well, what's the size of the nut? I've got some big sockets and box-end wrenches.
Wrap some tape or a shop-cloth/towel around it.

I think I took mine loose once. Once it's loosened it just twists off.

idk what size the nut is but what about the tool that takes the stock retaining nut off of a ar15/m16?

Only problem is that a flat blade and a hammer will not get me to the proper torque of 58 ft lbs when I have to put them back on.

Have no idea what the heck that even is. I will say that it is about the same diameter of a 29mm socket.

Thought you were talking about #8 there.
I have a pretty big socket, I did front wheel drive bearings once - 20-something socket. I want to say 23 or 27. I'd hafta look for it though.
It's under the triple tree outta sight isnt it? Use the channel locks and get that bitch outta your way!
But yea, "proper torque" on the way back might be a problem if it worries you. "Tight is Right", or haven't you ever heard that before. :-)

Well....one tool didn't work!!! :-o

Grex....
inhopes you might see this before you show up @ waffle house...Would you mind bringin that wrench with you tomorrow? I will meet ya @ the Waffle and pick it up so that I can be done with it by the time you swing back through from the track.

I tried the hammer and punch idea but....58 ft lbs of aluminum versus steel and a hammer was going to lead to some serious damage to the nuts by the time I got them loose.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o

This is the perfect weekend for me to get this done and a EFFIN TOOL is settin me back further and further!!!

Don't know exactly where that came from - it has been in my toolbox for more than 30 years.

Isn't that the same wrench that's used to adjust the rear suspension? I think I have one of those in MY toolbox, too.

Not for the TRex - the holes in my adjustments are round. I would be surprised if your rear suspension would use that wrench. That wrench is exactly for the type of nut that Grinner was trying to work with.

Grinner, you're one SICK puppy! Go ahead ... use GRex's wrench on whatever nuts you want to. He may not WANT it back.
