Akuma Devil Dog Helmet.

Post by DemonDuck » Fri Apr 09, 2010 6:25 am

I have sent a message to Akuma to see about when this helmet will be out as it might be the one I buy next. My only problem with it is that the EGA is an officers EGA on the picture.... not sure if they will offer it with a enlisted EGA on it or not so I asked them that in the email as well. If not does anyone know someone that could fix the EGA to all gold for me so I can wear it (I know I could wear it with the officer EGA but it is a matter of respect/tradition that I will not even consider doing that). Anyway it is probably the best helmet design I have ever seen but then that is probably because of my Marine Corps blood. Here is the link let me know what yall think.

You could possibly take it to a sticker shop and have them create an enlisted EGA decal to cover up the officers EGA.

I love their military theme but I wish they'd offer more non military options. I just wouldn't feel right wearing any of those having not served in the military. I think they may be hurting their sales if they continue with only military themed lids, but time will tell.

They have that carbon fiber one that looks sweet and it is supposed to be super light and all. I also like the one with the red dragon on one side and the blue dragon on the other side. Also the stealth one wouldnt be bad for anyone seeing as it is geared more tward the plane than the service and that is a bad arse plane. If I dont get the Devil Dog one I might go with the dragon one though, I love the way it has the red on one side and blue on the other then the blend to transition is cool to. Plus you add that TOD to it and WOW! Thanks for pointing these out to me man.

yeah, I do like that Doragon helmet, and I'm anxious to see when that Wolfpack helmet is coming out! The TOD shield seems cool, but I don't see it offered anywhere. I might get me one of these soon, as I'm in the market for a new helmet. I do agree with DS, that if they had more non-military themes it would probably be better for business. I do like the Ghostrider also, but would feel bad for wearing something that's military themed, and not having served in the military. Does it count if I wanted to join the Navy when I was younger to fly?

looks like at this point the TOD is only going to be offered with the new Wolfpack lid. Hopefully they'll make it backward compatible.

I sent them an email asking about a release date and LED's. I want blue LED's and the only one I see with blue is the Doragon

The downside to Akuma is they aren't Snell certified. Yes, they have ECE-2205 certification which is supposedly similar, but that won't convince CMRA, Kennedale, etc. to let you use it. Just keep that in mind if you're ever planning on using the lid in a situation where you would need it to be Snell certified.

Well the current line up isn't, but the new G-series 'Wolfpack' and 'Devil Dog' will be. Thanks for the heads up, I will really try and wait for the wolfie then, because I plan on getting in some track days!!! Or I could just get the Doragon now and then I would need to get the Wolfpack for the track :)

I thought I had read something about CMRA accepting it. You'd know more on that then me. I'm pretty sure Kennedale will let you go though, they don't really look at the helmits anyway. HA!

Well, most of the time the CMRA guys don't look either, but just because you can get away with it doesn't mean you should!

True, my understanding though, the ece and snell ratings are very close and it's more a matter of bodies like the CMRA haven't done the paperwork to approve 2 different ratings. Any way, rules are rules, ratings are ratings, no sence in going into it more.

My helmet (a Givi X.01) is ECE-2205 rated and the guys at Kennedale and Denton have never looked at it or asked. Having never done a track day, I can't speak to their diligence for the rules. I would expect them to be more stringent.

Yeah, your Givi is a modular, right? That won't pass tech at the track... full-face only. Snell doesn't certify anything that isn't full-face.

Ok has anyone had one of the Akuma helmets? I am wanting to find out how well they do at speeds and how the airflow inside the helmet is. Basically I would like a review from someone that has first hand experience with these helmets. Im really in a toss up between this helmet and the X-11. I like the features on this helmet but I have lots of feedback from people that have X-11's and love them so im not sure if I should take the chance on the Akuma or not. Also anyone with a RF-1000 that has had it up to 150-180 mph that can tell me how it does at speeds. If anyone has had both the RF-1000 and X-11 and has had both at high speeds that could tell me how each performed would be great.

I am also going to check and see if they have this visor "Akuma Chameleon Photochromic Helmet Face Shield With Aegis Hydrophobic Treatment" to fit all the helmets. The visor is just like transition lense so it just reacts to the light levels but it dont just go dark it also goes mirrored which is great. Plus it is supposed to be easy to clean and hard to scratch. This is cool stuff.

They responded yesterday. Here is what they said.... I will aslo keep you informed about any other responces I get as I keep asking more questions... they are going to hate me lol.

Jeremiah,

Randy,

Thank you for your interest in our Devil Dog, marine themed Helmet. We are anticipating a 2010 release
date, however I do not have any more of a specific date at this time. I
will save your email and contact you as soon as I
receive an availability date. The helmet will have the LED's in it. We do not custom make individual helmets. When the Tint On Demand visor is released, it should retrofit to all Akuma helmets.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be
of further assistance.

Thank you,

I actually called yesterday and she told me the same thing regarding the Wolfpack helmet. No day, month, or even what fiscal quarter date was known by her, but she did take down my email and tell me she'll keep me updated, and I reminded her that I sent an email and never got a response. Wish they'd provide more information. To me it sounded like she was reading from a script.

I'm suprised most helmet makers don't make a 'transitions-lens' style shield with material built in for auto darkening / lightening.

They probably compared the cost of making the shield to the interest in it and it wasn't worth it.
