MSRC - October 9-10 2010
MSRC - October 9-10 2010
In on lvl 1! So this will be my first track day and I cannot wait! Anywho, I know its very early, but I cannot attend the TWS event in houston. Now if anyone wants, I do have access to a 12 foot trailer and can fit two bikes plus tires and a cooler onto it. So if anyone has a more powerful truck ( I drive a 4 cylinder 5 speed ranger) and is willing to pull the trailer I will provide refreshments of your choice. My partner in crime Tami will be riding with me in the truck so unless you want to ride 3 up in a singe cab ranger I can't really take anyone. Either way, hope more of you guys are going!!!

October 9-10 is a MSRC event and yes it is CCW. I was wanting to do one day that weekend, but won't be able to due to other plans. I may be able to come down and hang out on Saturday though.
Have fun!

I think I want to make this. Just sent off an email to Dave to see about CW on one day, and riding the other. We will see.

Looks like both Cindy and I will ride on Sunday (Level 1 and Level 2). It will be her first trackday. They have free leathers for first timers so it is perfect timing. We'll call Dave about her leathers. Signed up.

Re: MCRW - October 9-10 2010
FYI, Letter to Dave.
Dave,
Great talking with you about your RideSmart trackdays. I really appreciate your style of management in that you are always open to a discussion or suggestions.
To recap, I had suggested a quicker class room session, maybe 8-10 minutes with a single, well defined task for the riders to try in the next session. Always… "We'll be watching you" Riders love that! Too much talking and you can go over their heads, especially while they're thinking about getting back to their bike in the pits. Leave the specialty questions for one on one later.
I also suggested a "First Timers" or "What to expect your first time" Video on your youtube channel, to ease the butterflies for new track riders. When searching "Eagles Canyon Level 1" we saw a few ok RideSmart videos but nothing took a person through the morning process, the preparations to the bike, fueling, taping lights, tech check in, what to bring, how the 3 sessions per hour work, your super easy initial sighting laps at slow speed with alternating positions in line (and show how to do that) plus the class room schedule throughout the day. If you took a camera and stuck with a well spoken instructor helping a newbie on his first time with RideSmart, you could catch the whole thing from the hectic morning process through lunch! Keith Code uses two guys (I'm assuming instructors in real life) to create a back story of riding success. See it here on youtube. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'd get the Twist of the Wrist II video.
For a new rider it's certainly a busy day. Thinking like a new rider from A to Z would save a million early morning questions. Worse yet, those street squid guys are too cool to ask questions. You may also want to print up a race day flyer for newbies on what to do, in order. Something that the gate check in people can hand out. "Anyone in this truck new to trackdays?"
Henry

That is a great idea - I can see how it would save a lot of time and ease the anxiety.

Re: MCRW - October 9-10 2010
super idea, this would really help out with someone like me. I've looked on youtube and they had a "what to expect trackday" video...it was horrible and told me nothing!!! i think the video might get more people who are unsure, out to the tracks!

Nice! Great to see Cindy out there on track... she looks pretty comfortable in that picture. How did the day go for you guys? Sorry I missed it... one more date at Cresson on 11/6. I wonder if the warm weather will hold out until then. Hrm...

Re: MSRC - October 9-10 2010
Well, regarding Cindy, she was in the office at lunchtime inquiring about the next track date (Nov 6th as you mentioned). We're in, paid and her custom leathers are being sewn in Asia as we speak. Yeah, she kinda liked it.
I loved the track after getting over the first day seam thingy and realizing you can really rock into those turns. Counter Clocky was great! I rode mid to upper pack in Group 2. Next time it will be better as I now trust the track more. Cindy had a typical first day on the track, better each session by 10% but getting passed everywhere (except the turns). It was good that there were three girls in level 1. She needs to up her speed on the straights and that will come. She mentioned the "If you hold up the train in the corners, let'm pass you on the straights" deal and kind of over did it IMO. That rule is more for guys like me with fast liter bikes and slow cornering abilities.
We went on a club ride this weekend and she was a different rider, holding well mid pack. I think her "ah-ha moment" was getting away from me and opening it up with Karl on your Intermediate ride last month. Thanks Karl!
Anyway, yeah, we are signed up for Level 1 & 2 for November 6th, hopefully we'll see you there. Damn, a FZ1... you're going to be even faster.
