Dragstrip night Sep 16Th

Post by DemonDuck » Tue Aug 30, 2011 7:52 pm

Unless there is some change to things I will be heading to the dragstrip on the 16th. Everyone is invited to join or just come out and watch. It is usually a blast and it is cheap. I will be going to either North Star Dragway in Denton or Kennidale. Both are 1/8 mile so you wont need full leathers to race if you choose to do so..... unless you have a very fast bike! Post up if your interested and ill put a poll up to see which dragstrip the masses want. I am kinda partial to Denton but then I like Kennidale also. As it gets closer we might meet up somewhere and ride out together if yall want but we will see. I know my brother and my wife with some of my kids are going. Feel free to bring the family as it is alot of fun for the kids to watch as well and under 12 are free.

I will in no way be pushing people to get on the track other than this..... It is a great experience and very fun as long as you can control your excitement at least the first few times and just be scared on those first few launches. Get a feel for things taking it extreamly easy first ... then work your way to getting better launches. No problem with launching like grandma and then giving it some gas after you get moving a little so you dont try to SUPERMAN! Other than that little speach you will get not pressure out of me. Also I never do burnouts ... mainly because I havent had a traction problem at the track and also I dont change the tires so it is my every day stuff that I want to last.

Haven't done it on the bike yet, but did it a few times in the car and I can say this. While any fool can go fast in a straight line, it really isn't as easy as you would think.

What does "very fast bike mean? Sounds a bit subjective.

If you look up the rules under the NHRAA there will be a time for bikes. If you're faster then that time you need more then just helmet, jacket and pants. Same for cars, you don't need a helmet and can carry a passenger if you're under a set time but if you are fast enough you need a helmet and no passenger. There's another time, if you faster then that you need a role cage, and a few other things. What gets me, if you've never been to the track before, how do you know how fast you can go and what protective equipement you need?

Of course if you own leathers already, no reason not to wear them.

You'll know after to run that certain time or speed because they will kick you off the track if you do it 2x in a row.

I would say wear your leathers if you have them, if not, don't worry about it unless they warn you.

I am just saying that I am not able to break the time or speed on my 14 in the 1/8th In fact I dont think Ricky Godson could do it without strapping it down and lowering the back, pulling the air filter, and running on race fuel. Sooooooo I think we are all ok.

Hey Sauter is going to get on the track this time I think. He might not have any land speed records but he is going to get back up on the horse and that is enough.

What is the time or speed required for full leathers? I don't think it's all that quick and you should probably be able to hit it with your bike, or at least come close.

Oh, on the burn out thing. For cars anyway, on street tires, the only reason to do a burn out is to clean the tires, so just a quick spin of the wheels is all that's needed, not the big smokey burn out needed to heat the race slicks up. Street tires actually grip better cold to slightly warm then they do hot. Our bike tires could stand with a slight warm up, but nothing major, again, you're going more for cleaning the tire up rather then heat.

I want to say you have to break 120 mph in the 1/8. Fastest I have been is 105. Ricky Gadson only hit 155 or so in the 1/4 on a stock bike so I dont think it is an issue.

When you're on a bike you can feel the sticky traction on the launch pad. Actually feels like adhesive was sprayed down when you're staged and waiting for the launch light. I don't recommend riding through the water puddle :-)
