1986 Ninja 1000r build thread
So after 8 months of this bike sitting in storage, I'm finally able to rebuild this bike.. But I don't think I can afford to rebuild the motor this year
This is what I'm starting with. And once I get the clutch holding tool I can start taking the transmission apart. But while I'm waiting I'm going to start removing all the rust.-Ryan

If your going to rebuild the transmission I wouldn't bother with the clutch tool at this stage, finish ripping the bike apart and get that motor out first.

What is wrong with the motor?
Re: 1986 Ninja 1000r build thread
I'm doing that tomorrow. I spent most of the day hunting electrical gremlins on the 500.fixxervi6 wrote:If your going to rebuild the transmission I wouldn't bother with the clutch tool at this stage, finish ripping the bike apart and get that motor out first.
The clutch fell apart when I was on the highway.Fish R1 wrote:What is wrong with the motor?

Re: 1986 Ninja 1000r build thread
have you verified what actually went wrong? clutches normally don't fall apart and if the pressure plate bolts snap of that isn't going to cause the rear wheel to lock.
If you need to work on the transmission your going to have to split the cases.

The pressure plate bolts didn't snap. The hub is what failed. I'm guessing that it was damaged when I bought the bike. But with a transmission rebuild the bike will be fullly functioning again.
