One thing to ask when calling around to find a place, find out what height they jump from. That was one of the reasons bailout suggested the place in Austin, they jump from a higher level than most places.

I actually enjoyed the chute open portion more so than the free fall. Free fall was loud, cold, and my eyes watered up so bad I couldn't see much of anything! Once the chute opened it was pretty cool just hanging in the air looking around. My guy spun us pretty good and got us to what felt like parallel to the ground.

October is out for me. November or December would be a possibility.

Just talked with a co-worker who also is one of the guys leading the tandem jumps at Skydive 35 (the one in Hillsboro). He said it's about $200 to jump tandem. Weight limit is about 230.

My Chiropractor, Dr. Don Stewart in Stephenville has been skydiving for many moons. He actually runs a jump school out of the Stephenville airport. He worked out of Granbury for years, but Stephenville the past several. It might be cheaper once you get out of the metroplex. His office phone is 254-968-5075. I might consider going, if I can get my wife on board.

The employees at work were going to buy a skydiving session for me as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago, but she nixed it due to some health issues at the time. Instead, I ended up with the Dale Jarrett Driving Experience at Texas Motor Speedway, which was friggin' cool for me (that's another story, and I highly recommend it if you get the chance). I think I missed my calling in life on that one. So, a track day sounds way cooler than skydiving to me, but then again you guys live that regularly and have it checked off your list.

On a side note, he has the coolest skydiving picture in his office. It's several dropping in formation over downtown Dallas (camera view looking straight down into the heart of it), and what's between the skydivers and the skyscrapers but a Southwest jet zooming through the photo. I assume it's real, but regardless, way cool.

I did my first track day in November and have checked it off of my list 10 times. I plan to check it off another 20 times before the end of next year, so yeah you need to do that.

But come skydiving too.

My first skydive... It was the AFF program (Accelerated Free Fall), where you take an 8 hour class, do some practice stuff, then jump with your own chute and you're supposed to have two instructors holding onto you the whole way until you pull your chute. And... the hilarity ensues. I survived, but not sure if I'll go again yet...

Yes... I solo'd my first jump lol...

I forget the cost, but I do not believe this is offered anymore. I believe you have to jump tandem now your first few jumps.

Just an fyi...here is something to think about before making the leap. When you show up to the airfield and it is a brisk cool morning, its gonna be freezin fuckin cold when you step out into nothing.
My mangina says that if im gonna make a jump antime soon it prolly wont happen before may er june of next year.

it really doesn't matter when you jump, it's always cold up there.

Yeah, I jumped in the May-June timeframe and while on the ground it was in the 90's, at 10k ft it was around 45-50 degrees.

Sounds about right. That is one of the most gratifying things about flying. On a hot TX day the closest route to a cool breeze is straight up. About 3.5 degrees per thousand feet.
